Material Properties

Zirconium oxide has a crystal lattice and therefore excellent qualities. Depending on the temperature, zirconium oxide has different shaped structures. Up to 1170 °С the atoms form monoclinic crystals. At temperatures above 1170 °C the structure transforms to the tetragonal phase with the associated volume reduction of approx. 3-5%. At 2370 °C the material transforms into a cubic structure. The highest strength is achieved in the tetragonal structure. In order to benefit from this degree of strength at room temperature, Bionah has added further oxides such as yttrium oxide (Y,O,) to BionZ Zirconia.
